ZM3Liveproductions is proud to present its farewell performance, From A to Z and All Parts In Between, featuring Austin Arts Hall of Fame inductee Zell Miller III — an artist, storyteller, and the inaugural Austin Poet Laureate—who has shaped the cultural heartbeat of Austin for more than two decades.
In this rare and deeply personal evening, audiences will experience Zell Miller III as they have never seen or heard him before. Through a rich blend of storytelling and poetry, Zell will reflect on his 50+ years as an Austin resident and 25+ years as one of the city’s most celebrated artists. From childhood memories to defining artistic milestones, every performance will take audiences on a moving journey of truth, resilience, and creativity.
As always, Zell will be joined by his longtime collaborator, the incomparable Thomas Wheeler (aka The T-Man) — one of Austin’s most gifted musicians. Each night promises to be unique, as Thomas creates an improvised live score that shifts with Zell’s stories, ensuring no two performances are ever the same.
From A to Z and All Parts In Between is more than a performance—it’s a living, breathing conversation with the city that shaped Zell, and the audiences who have supported his work for decades. Zell Miller III, the inaugural Poet Laureate of Austin, TX, is theater artist and creative force known for thought-provoking works that explore identity, culture, and human experience. With a passion for storytelling and performance, Miller has made significant contributions to the arts, particularly in the realms of poetry and theater. In 2004 he was voted the best/poet writer in the Austin Chronicle. In 2017 he was inducted into the Austin Arts Hall of Fame.
His poetic work is deeply influenced by his personal experiences and the broader social and political landscapes. He has toured nationally and internationally as a performer and has opened for legendary artists like Nikki Giovanni and the Last Poets. Zell's poetry often weaves together elements of history, race, and emotion, creating powerful narratives that resonate with audiences. As a theater artist, he has utilized his unique voice to craft performances that challenge conventional boundaries and encourage reflection on societal issues.
Miller's approach to both poetry and theater is marked by an intense focus on language, rhythm, and the connection between artist and audience. His performance style. taught to him by his mentor Laurie Carlos is steeped in the jazz aesthetic. A performance style . Whether performing on stage or sharing his written work, he brings raw and genuine energy to his art, drawing viewers into the intimate spaces he creates with words and movement.
