A couple of lovely Running Bear raves are in:

Mical Trejo is "intense" and Macy Butler is "absolutely riveting. . . . there wasn't a moment of disengagement or duplicity between the two, which kept the audience thoroughly engaged." "Brilliantly" staged by Rosalind Faires. A "captivating world premiere production" of playwright Raul Garza's "latest and most mature work. . . . This is Hyde Park Theatre's first original play in over two years. Running Bear reminds us of what we've been missing."
-Austin Chronicle

"Butler and Trejo bring immense talent to their roles, delivering intense emotional moments . . . . Hyde Park Theater's production of Running Bear is at its core a heart to heart, speaking to many of the anxieties of the moment with striking intensity and sensitivity."
-Sightlines

HPT is back with an exquisite two-hander by Raul Garza--and it's a world premiere. Running Bear our pick for our 2021 Summer New Play Workshop, but the pandemic meant we couldn't do it live. Now we're bringing it back as our first HPT-produced live play in two years.

Two strangers--a middle-aged Latino engineer and a seventeen-year-old black girl--have come to the same pedestrian bridge in Running Bear Park to be alone. There they have it out, at first hilariously, and then in shocking, transfixing depth.

Garza is also the author of Confessions of a Mexpatriate, a delightfully funny, moving, and critically acclaimed one-man play HPT produced in 2018.

Directed by Rosalind Faires, Running Bear features Mical Trejo and Macy Butler and runs Thursdays through Saturdays at 8:00 PM, June 16 - July 16.
