It's all over now folks, nothing to see here, move along. (Check back in August 2009 for 2010 applications.) FronteraFest 2009 Theatre from the Edge "The
fringe theater event of the Southwest!"
That's right: it's time to heat up your winter nights again, with the 16th (ALMOST LEGAL) season of FronteraFest at Hyde Park Theatre. The Short Fringe, the Long Fringe, BYOV, or Mi Casa--as always and ever, FronteraFest is five weeks of alternative, offbeat, new, and just plain off-the-wall fringe theatre. Too bad there's no actual way to expect the unexpected, because that is your only hope. FronteraFest is produced in collaboration with Austin Script Works, a group dedicated to supporting emerging playwrights and developing new dramatic works. FronteraFest is grateful to our marvelous sponsors--if you love FronteraFest, please pass some of your business their way.
The Austin Chronicle
The Short Fringe Every night we present a new bill of four or five plays no longer than 25 minutes each. Brilliant monologues? Plays in progress? Comedy improv? Cabaret singers? Avant-garde dance? Short films? Multimedia? We've seen it all.
Every Saturday night is a juried "Best of the Week" performance, and the last week, February 10-14, is the juried "Best of the Fest"--with a few wild cards thrown in. Note: we will put the week's shows in performance order every Tuesday morning.

Mi Casa Es Su Teatro This perennial audience favorite features site-specific productions all around town. The 2009 show is curated by the quirky geniuses at Popworks Cooperative, and it's a bit different this year--all the Mi Casa pieces will be connected by a single theme. Here's their description:
The Travelling Von Creeplingburger Brothers and Family
Jesters to the czars of Prussia. Dancers in the courts of Transylvania. Retiring after generations of GLORIOUS performances for audiences across the world (and United States), they will DELITE and ENTERTAIN, CHARM and amaze, ONE LAST TIME!
An eccentric, vaguely Eastern European family of vaudeville performers endlessly circle the fringes searching for an audience. Singing and dancing to whoever will spare their time. The Sweet and Sour Sisters sing a sad song of sorrow. Uncle/Brother tells an ancient joke. Mysteries are revealed. The procession grows. A song, a dance. Where will they go? It ends - as always - at the foot lights for a bow and one last refrain.
Times and locations on Saturday, February 7:
Note: for Mi Casa, tickets are $3 for all shows, and are available only at the door, in cash. No reservations.
